How to add watermarks and page numbers to PDF attachments

Prepare PDF attachments in two steps: add a purpose watermark, then page numbers. Check batch limits, credit costs and the details to review before sharing.

This guide is available in English and Simplified Chinese.

Decide how the documents will be delivered

A document package may contain a main agreement, a quotation and supporting notes in separate PDFs. A purpose watermark and visible page numbers help readers distinguish review copies and check completeness. Keep the originals and work on copies.

Batch numbering starts independently in each file. If you need continuous numbering across the whole package, merge the files in reading order before adding page numbers.

Step 1: add the watermark

Sign in to the PDF workspace, choose the watermark tool, then upload and select your PDFs. Enter a short, single-line label such as DRAFT or FOR REVIEW. Choose its position, size and opacity. Start with a two-page sample that contains no sensitive information before processing a batch.

Watermark text supports common English and Chinese characters and must contain 1–100 characters. Font size ranges from 12–72 pt and opacity from 10–60%. No setting fits every layout: move or reduce the label if it overlaps a heading. Confirm the selected files and total pages before submitting.

Download the result. One file produces a PDF; multiple files produce a ZIP. Extract the ZIP and check each PDF. Use these watermarked results for the next step, rather than selecting the originals again.

Step 2: number the watermarked results

Open the page-number tool and upload the watermarked PDFs. Choose a top or bottom position, alignment, starting number and format. Keep page numbers away from the watermark, existing text, signatures and stamps.

Each file starts independently at your chosen number. In the current page / last page number format, a two-page file starting at 5 displays 5 / 6 and 6 / 6. The denominator is the final page number, not the page count. Existing page numbers are not automatically removed.

Credit costs and batch limits

Watermarking and numbering are separate tasks, each costing one credit per input page. Three ten-page attachments use 30 credits for watermarks and another 30 for numbering: 60 in total. A two-page sample uses four credits for both steps. These are billing examples, not measured payment results.

Each batch tool accepts up to ten PDFs and 200 pages in total. Each file must be at most 20 MB and 100 pages. Flatten fillable form fields before processing. Check the displayed estimate and your account balance before submitting.

Review the result before sharing

Check file and page counts, watermark placement, numbering order and readability. Zoom in on dates, amounts, tables and signature areas. Download results before they expire and retain your own copies.

A watermark is a visible label, not access control, copy protection, secure redaction or identity verification. Keep digitally signed originals separately: do not assume a modified copy retains a valid digital signature.
